Turbocharger Radial Turbine Response to Pulse Amplitude

چکیده
Abstract Under on-engine operating conditions, a turbocharger turbine is subject to pulsating flow and, consequently, experiences deviations from the performance measured in gas-stand conditions. Furthermore, due high exhaust gases temperatures, heat transfer further deteriorates performance. The complex interaction of aerothermodynamic mechanisms occurring inside hot-side, and consequently behavior, largely affected by shape pulse, which can be parameterized through three parameters: pulse amplitude, frequency, temporal gradient. This paper investigates hot-side system response amplitude via detached eddy simulations (DES) radial including manifold. First, computational model validated against experimental data obtained Then, two different mass pulses, characterized difference ≈5%, are compared. An exergy-based post-processing approach shows beneficial effects increasing amplitude. improvement power 1.3%, despite increment total internal irreversibilities 5.8% 3.4%, respectively, reported. The Influence of Pulse Shape on the Performance of a Mixed Flow Turbine for Turbocharger Applications
Engine downsizing allows automotive manufactures to achieve improved efficiency and reduce emissions. Turbocharging can increase the power density of the engine, and therefore plays a vital role in downsizing. Due to the nature of the reciprocating engine, a turbocharger turbine operates in a highly unsteady environment. This paper presents a computational investigation looking at the impact of...

متن کاملUnsteady Performance Analysis of a Twin-entry Variable Geometry Turbocharger Turbine
The unsteady performance of a twin-entry variable geometry turbine for an automotive turbocharger is presented. A single-entry variable geometry turbine was initially designed based on a commercial nozzle-less turbine. The variable geometry single-entry volute was later modified to twin-entry through partitioning. A comprehensive range of steady testing and evaluation was also conducted as part...

متن کاملHeat Transfer Analysis in a Turbocharger Turbine: an Experimental and Computational Evaluation
This paper presents the performance of a turbocharger under non-adiabatic conditions in order to assess the impact of heat transfer. A commercial turbocharger was installed on a 2.0 liter diesel engine and measurements were conducted for a range of engine speeds and loads. The test results enabled to assess the impact of the engine on the temperature distribution of the bodies constituting the ...
